Hometown: Montoursville, Pennsylvania

My Story: I cannot remember a time when I did not know Jesus Christ. I was raised in a loving Christian family where Christ and His Church were a priority. When I was a sophomore in high school, I received my calling into youth ministry. That calling continued to develop as I grew closer to the Lord and had some great mentors back home. I attended Messiah College in Grantham, Pennsylvania, where I focused on Christian Ministries. The summer of my sophomore year there, God blessed me with a children’s ministry internship in Vienna, Virginia. This is where the Lord placed on my heart a desire to bring children to a knowledge and saving grace of Him. Now, the Lord has blessed me with this opportunity at Oakdale Emory to serve and show God’s love to all the children in and around the Olney area!

Ministry Area: Children’s Ministry: I provide vision, direction, development and management for all aspects of our ministry to, with, and for children from nursery through fifth grade. This includes eMpower Sunday School, The Bridge Class, The Ark Children's Center, Vacation Bible School, Christian Day Camp, Kids with Purpose, Puppets Empowering People, and Club 45. Contact me at jsouter@oeumc.org or 301-774-2030, ext. 14.

Family: Julie (my mom) loves to sing; Amy (my older sister) and her husband Brian are both teachers at an elementary school and they just had a baby girl, Teagan, in April 2011; and Erica (my younger sister) is a senior in high school and is passionate about dance!

Passion: Showing love and compassion to young people by bringing them to a better understanding of and relationship with Jesus Christ!

Favorite Pastime Activities: Spending time with my whole family! I also love sports, especially football (Go Packers!) and baseball (Go Phillies!).   

Little-Known Fact: I know how to toss pizza dough in the air—and catch it!
