Hometown: Rochester, Minnesota

My Story: In January 2008, I left the national magazine where I had worked for 20 years in order to fully devote my time and talents to coordinating internal and external communications for OEUMC. That career change was the next step beyond a leap of faith, which I had made many years ago. It was what author Brennan Manning calls a second conversion” reflecting my trust in God to fulfill His promisesthe essence of the Hebrew and Christian scriptures—and my obedience to a longstanding call to ministry. An article that I once read describes a calling as the “inner urge to give your gifts away to something you feel purposeful or passionate about.”

Ministry Area & Job Description: As Communications Director, I oversee the content of the church Web site, Two42 monthly magazine, Weekly Messenger, Midday Messages, Sunday bulletin, announcement slides, Georgia Ave. sign board and banners, as well as advertising/marketing strategies. Contact me at ajordan@oeumc.org or 301-774-2030, ext. 26.

Family: Jay (husband of 25 years) is employed by Base Technologies as a UNIX systems administrator for the National Institutes of Health. Our oldest son, Davyd (age 22), is a fifth-year architecture student at the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago. Our younger son, Scott (age 16), is a junior at Sherwood High School.

Passion: Christ-centered families (and peppermint mochas from Starbucks, although I have cut way back on my daily “candy bar in a cup” habit).

Favorite Pastime Activities: Reading, listening to music, kayaking, and traveling. My family enjoys relaxing at our log cabin in Berkeley Springs, West Virginia.

Little-Known Fact: I am immune to mosquito bites.
