Hometown: Native Washingtonian, born in Garfield Memorial Hospital

My Story: First aspired to be an organist when taken to church at an early age and heard the majestic sounds of the pipe organ. I can remember begging my parents to take me up to the organ loft to see what I was hearing.

Ministry Area: Organist for Oakdale Emory United Methodist Church for the past 24 years.

Family: Married my former student, Susan, in 1973. She passed away in 2010. We have two sons, Paul and Keith, and a grandson Jacob Charles Brubacher.

Passion: Serving our Lord through ministry in music. I believe that the role of the organ in worship need not be thought of as its being a stodgy outdated musical instrument. The wealth of sacred music written for the organ still proclaims it “The King of Instruments.” The organ can lend itself to supporting contemporary and well as traditional worship if it is used in new and imaginative ways. Orders for new organs for churches in this country are on an increase and I encourage our younger people to be as open-minded to the organ as I am to instrumental contemporary music. If I were not, I would not have made nine yearly tours with our incredible youth choir “Joyful Noise!” as a keyboardist.

Favorite Pastime Activities: Antiquing, especially searching for Heisey Glass; accompanying the great silent-film classics all over the area with my improvised scores; cooking and developing recipes in my “kitchen laboratory”

Little-Known Fact: I was born on April 14th, the same day Lincoln was assassinated and the RMS Titanic struck the iceberg. There was another major disaster that occurred on that date, but I have forgotten it.
